Art is Dead.

What do we consider art these days anyway? Bo Burnham bashes entertainers in his song "Art is Dead." The odd thing is that Bo is an entertainer himself, having over 70 million views on his Youtube videos and having sold millions of stand-up comedy/music cds. He talks about how most artists today, including himself, are "self-centered", "self-obsessed", and "unworthy of all [the] attention" they receive. Bo relates entertainers to a child at a birthday party who won't stop screaming because he's an attention seeker. He goes on to say comics and actors get rewarded for never maturing and understanding that everything can't be about them. I think artists today take everything they have for granted. If some of them hadn't lucked out and gotten their "big break", they wouldn't be where they are today. Bo even says that he is just as bad as the rest of the artists. The opening line he uses when introducing this song is, "This song isn't funny at all, but it helps me sleep at night." Talentless people like Snooki and Ke$ha make 7-digit salaries per year, while everyone else has to work hard every day barely getting by. Some celebrities just shouldn't be given any publicity (even if it's negative) in the first place. Now the trashy celebs just can't stay out of the media because of their pointless scandals and sex tapes. It is hardly an accomplishment to call yourself an "artist", because so little talent is required to become one. Bo deserves some credit for writing a song like this. I think it is surreal to him that he has become famous just from making Youtube videos in his bedroom. Bo deserves all the fame he gets, and is a true artist with hilarious material.
